David Crosbie

About the artist: Being mainly a figurative artist, I have always enjoyed the figure in art.
My work of late seems to revolve around relationships, people to people,
people to people, people to space, space to environment. In these works I have used predominantly the colour blue to express a sense of calm and
atmosphere. I enjoy the way the pigment sits in the paper texture, so grainy, dense, and unpredictable. There is a kind of magic in the way the colour affects my senses, creating a contrast like no other colour.

Recently I have begun making woodblock and monoprints on a similar theme, trying to understand the figure in a more open environment, using crowds as reference, I try to create compositions with balance, tension,
rhythm and space.

Hopefully I can create images that realize how people move through space and can re-interpret this in a readable way, using the media to build up a relationship between my self and the viewer, putting them in my place.
