Erika Beilharz

About the artist: Erika Beilharz has studied Printmaking and drawing at TAFE and has an impressive history as a weaver and makes large scale tapestries, which she has exhibited in the past at Heron Gallery in Castlemaine.
“I entered the world of colour, image and design through the medium of woven tapestry. To further my understanding, I took part in various drawing classes and workshops. This lead to a course in Drawing at BRIT, and from there I moved into printmaking at BRIT. During this time I set up a printmaking studio, complete with printing press, next to my weaving studio.”
“I have since worked on my own, while taking part in many group exhibitions in the region, amongst them "Works on Paper” at the Bendigo Art Gallery - three times, and the Eaglehawk Dahlia and Arts Festival where I won some awards.”
“At present I work on finding greater depth and cohesion in what I produce, by concentrating on what comes naturally to me, i.e,all over stylizations, edge to edge compositions, overprinting and repeats and tactile (textile ) qualities.”
“The work of other contemporary printmakers, available in books and galleries and the internet provides an endless source of inspiration.”
